Easter 2011

Happy Easter! On Saturday Me, Mom, Dad took Skyler to the Kaysville Easter egg hunt at Barnes Park. Suprisenly there were not as many people there as there has been in the past. In Skyler's age group there was hardly any so they all got a lot. :)

I think that the whole thing was done in like 5 min. :)

Skyler with his basket full of eggs

He was pretty excited that he got a lot. He has defiently improved over the years in getting eggs. When he was little he would walk slowly and if some other kid wanted it he would let them get it. we were lucky if he came out with one egg. :)

Later on saturday me, skyler, spencer, nils and dad all colored our eggs for the easter bunny. It was fun.

On Sunday morning the Easter bunny did a great job of hiding our eggs. He his Nils the best. we searched for a while. :)

Hallmark Movie Sunday!!

Once again it was Hallmark Sunday! Yeah! Oh and this one was so so good! It also took place in SLC and was about a lady from Utah! I enjoyed this one very much.

Here is the basic plot that I found on line...

"Beyond the Blackboard", a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, aired Easter Sunday on CBS. The film, starring Emily VanCamp, shares the plight of America's homeless children. It not only addresses their lost education. It also reveals their basic need to feel value as human beings.

Based on a true story, "Beyond the Blackboard" uncovers the life of Stacey Bess (VanCamp), a young mother and new teacher. Eager to begin her life in education, Bess thinks she is prepared for almost anything. Unfortunately, she is soon proven wrong. Bess is assigned to a school that doesn't exist in the most traditional sense. It has no name. It has no classroom. It has no desks, textbooks or supplies. It is assigned no principal or janitor. In fact, all it does have is about 20 students of varying ages. They have only one thing in common. They are all homeless.

The so-called school takes place in a makeshift homeless shelter. The parents are cautious and suspicious. Some are distracted by their own problems. Others don't believe their children need an education. A few just want their children to have a chance at success in life. All of them look at the young teacher with uncertainty and some sense of lingering hope.

The situation seems overwhelming at first and Bess thinks about giving up after the first day. She doesn't though, because she doesn't want her children to see her quit. Instead, she keeps going and quickly discovers she has stumbled upon the most rewarding work of her life.

Bess finds a way to work the system so she can get her students what they need, including the basic necessities of life. She lobbies with school officials and she enlists the skills of shelter residents to help her. She even gets her husband to coach sports. Slowly, she begins to make a lasting difference in the lives of some of America's forgotten children.

"Beyond the Blackboard" is both eye-opening and challenging. It shows how the strength and courage of a single individual can make an ever-lasting difference in the lives of many. All it really requires is a leap of faith and the willingness to serve.

Stacey Bess continued to teach homeless children for eight years. Now she tours the country and lobbies on behalf of their educational rights.

I have not found when the next one is on but as soon as I do I will let you know. :)

Childhood Books

I am going to a baby shower tonight for a friend and the theme is to bring a book to help build their library. So I was trying to think of my most favorite childhood books and I up with....

OK this has to be one of the best books on the planet! It is so so cute and a great way to learn your ABC's. But I think that the best part is how my mom would read it to us. It was always so animated and fun. I bought it to give and I still secretly want to keep it. When I came home from the store I had to read it to my roommates and then at 10:00 last night my mom called to read me a bedtime story which was this book. it was great!

Now this book you have to read in a Grover voice! My mom was super good at it. It is such a cute book. I got it at walmart and it was super cheep. :)

Oh we all loved this book is is so so cute. and we loved it when they came out with the moose a muffin one also. it was cute.

I totally felt like I was 5 yesterday and I just wanted to sit down and have story time. How wonderful it is to be a kid.

Spring Project :)

On Saturday April 2ND me and my mom had a wonderful day. :) both LOVE spring and have been super sad that it has not really come and that winter has lasted so so long. We decided that it was time to change that and decorate for spring. We went out to J&J and got the cutest Flower door hanger thing ever! Mom got a super cute butterfly also.

Then we went and found some plants and some potters. Next we went to Ross and found some super cute stuff there. I got some clothes and a wedding present for a friend. Mom got a clock and some dish towels for another project that we did. :) I LOVE Ross! Such great deals.

Then we went to lunch at one of our most favorite places Plates and Palates in Bountiful Utah. We got half salads and half paninis.OH man they are just so so divine!

Then we headed over the the dollar store where we had way too much fun and got so much stuff. its really hard not to get the cute things when they are only a dollar. :)

When we got home we got to work and started making our cute things. we started spry painting and painting the pots and putting up decorations. We got most of it done but then we finished the rest of it on Monday. It was great! Now it can kind of feel like spring even though there is snow on the ground today. :)

Here are some pics that I took of the projects :)
